Southwest Spring Flowers

Here we have a collection flowers you might encounter if you visit the Southwest during the spring months. The deserts and grasslands of this area can put on quite the wildflower show when mother nature provides enough moisture during the winter months. These flowers were captured in various places throughout Arizona in recent years during the months of February through May.
The wildflower season in lower elevation areas like the Sonoran Desert (Phoenix) starts in January and end in late March, while areas at higher elevations, for example Sedona and Lake Powell, bloom in April and May. In Flagstaff's dry Ponderosa Pine forest habitat, most flowers appear with the monsoon rain in July.

This year, due to lack of moisture the outlook for desert wildflowers is below average. Visit http://www.desertusa.com/wildflo/az.html to learn more about the current Arizona wildflower season.
