Synopsis
Join astronomers and scientists from Lowell Observatory, US Naval Observatory and US Geological Survey in this stimulating program. Flagstaff, located in northern Arizona at 7,000 ft. elevation, has dazzling night skies and is surrounded by ponderosa pines and aspen forests, volcanic lava flows, and the magnificent San Francisco Peaks. Flagstaff is 140 miles north of Phoenix with convenient access via plane, train and bus.

Course Description
The Latest Discoveries In Astronomy And The NASA Space Program
Discover the answers to the great questions: Where did we come from? How was the universe created? How are stars born? Since the late 1800s Flagstaff has been a center for astronomical study and played a pivotal role in space research. Visit Lowell Observatory, founded in 1894 and one of the leading astronomical research facilities in the world, and Meteor Crater, used as a training ground for the Apollo astronauts and the world's best-preserved meteor impact site. Lecturers discuss black holes, cosmology, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), the Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions, the Galileo Mission to Jupiter, string theory, archeoastronomy and the Hubble Space Telescope. Suitable for all interest levels.

Flagstaff elevation exceeds 7,000 feet.


Accommodations
Hotel lodging. Amenities include indoor pool, spa and exercise room. Adjacent to the Northern Arizona University campus, location of most classes.
