Synopsis When it comes to the
Grand Canyon, only
superlatives apply! Grand Canyon National Park encompasses 277 miles
of the Colorado River and includes more than 1.2 million acres of
forests, streams, waterfalls, alpine meadows, deserts, canyons, and
plateaus. Five of North America's seven life zones and three of its
four deserts are found within and around the Canyon. Add to that the
fact that it is a mile deep and you have an incomparable
destination. Experience its grandeur from both of its spectacular
rims while field naturalists and park rangers reveal its natural and
human history.

Description Most visitors to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park
think they have "seen it all." In truth, they have experienced only
part of its scope and grandeur. Just 10 miles distance as the crow
flies, yet 200 plus miles by road on the remote Arizona Strip, lies
the less visited but equally stunning North Rim. Discussions and
field trips bring the Canyon’s wildlife into focus. In field
lectures, naturalists and park rangers reveal its natural and human
history. On the South Rim, learn about pioneers, the region’s
indigenous population, the mules, John Wesley Powell, and the Harvey
Girls. At the remote North Rim, we look for regional wildlife such
as Kaibab squirrels and wild turkeys. We’ll also have excursions to
the Navajo Reservation and an historic trading post. Contemplating
the Canyon’s grandeur at sunrise and sunset are sure to be memorable
highlights. Program begins and ends in Phoenix for ease for travel
logistics.
