this 12 century archaeological wonder. The monument contains ruins

seeing the northern most Mayan style "ball court" in the Americas,
as well as an interesting volcanic 'blow hole' (Level 3)

visit to Lowell is a surprising treat. Lowell is the largest
privately funded observatory in the US and holds much historical
significance. Learn about the discovery of Pluto, the initial
mapping of the moon for the Apollo missions, and the historic Clarke
telescope. The Museum of Northern Arizona is region's premier museum
focusing on the natural and cultural resources of the Colorado
Plateau. (Level 2)

Mountain. This volcanic cinder cone had a violent explosion exposing
its geologic core. Beautiful geologic formations include hoodoos and
spires. Then drive up to the Arizona Snowbowl at 9,500 feet to
marvel at the abundant views and fall color display. A short hike
will be included (level 3).

where we discuss various aspects of the history and science of the
impact and look into its center. Adjacent to the crater is the

Morning
presentations from 2 of our premier presenters.
8:30 - 9:45: Hopi Culture presentation. Poet and artist Ramson
Lomatewama will share insights into this most traditional and
fascinating native American tribe. The Hopi live on three mesas in
northeast Arizona. Ramson is the author of books of poetry, a master
katsina carver, glass blower and jeweler. His way of looking at the
world is a reflection of his rich heritage and the timeless culture
of the Hopi people.
10 - 11:15: Brad Dimock, author of 'Sunk Without a Sound" will share
a Grand Canyon story of mystery and intrigue: On November 18, 1928,
Glen and Bessie Hyde launched on the final leg of their honeymoon
voyage on the Colorado River through Grand Canyon. Their cumbersome
wooden sweep scow was found upright and fully loaded three weeks
later, but despite exhaustive searches, Glen and Bessie had vanished
without a trace. Or had they? In the years since, four people
appearing to be either Glen or Bessie have emerged, each with a tale
implying murder and mayhem. Author and boatman Brad Dimock has
unearthed the true story of the Hydes, followed each tale to its
source, and gone so far as to retrace the Hydes' fateful voyage in a
replica of their archaic scow. |
